Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.

What is the process of obtaining veneers?

The first step is an evaluation with Dr. Cole Sutak of Lone Star Smiles to determine candidacy. Most adult patients who have concerns on the anterior (front) teeth may be able to use porcelain veneers to cover them and improve the overall appearance of the teeth and smile.

Once patients have decided that porcelain veneers are right for them, preparation begins. The dentist needs to file down some of the tooth enamel on the front of the tooth before taking impressions for creating the restorations. A temporary may be placed while the molds are sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication. When the veneer is finished, the patient returns to remove the temporary and bond the final restoration in place over the problematic tooth.
