Improve your smile in one visit with gentle teeth bonding in Lubbock, TX

The team at Lone Star Smiles in Lubbock, TX encourages you to embrace bonding. Dental bonding is one of the most cost-effective ways to conservatively, effectively, and dramatically improve the appearance of your smile. It can also add strength to teeth that have been weakened by wear and tear.

Bonding, basics

As with all treatments at our office, bonding starts with an evaluation by Dr. Cole Sutak.  He  will examine your teeth and gums, and discuss any concerns that you may have, as well as goals for treatment. If you have active decay or disease, those conditions must be resolved prior to treatment. We may also find that you are a better candidate for other treatments, such as partial or full crowns.

Bonding is a quick and easy method for many patients, including those with:

  • Modest enamel erosion, wear, or damage
  • Slight fractures
  • Chips
  • Stubborn discoloration that resists professional teeth whitening
  • Worn-down or irregularly-sized teeth
  • Irregularly-shaped teeth that detract from the smile symmetry
  • Gaps between the front teeth (diastema) or other minor spacing issues

Dental bonding can correct these and other cosmetic imperfections in a single visit. How? Also known as a direct veneer, bonding involves preparing a tooth-like material such as composite resin. The composite is colored to blend in with the neighboring teeth. So, it looks natural. Unlike their indirect (porcelain) veneers counterparts, direct veneers or bonding involve placing the prepared composite directly on to the teeth. Dr. Sutak will use considerable artistic skill to shape the composite so that it perfectly disguises the excess space, chips, cracks, dark discoloration or other cosmetic concerns. No natural tooth enamel is removed or altered. This characteristic makes dental bonding an attractive non-invasive, reversible, and conservative treatment. Since no enamel is removed, it is well tolerated by patients. Numbing anesthetic is not required, and it is even appropriate for patients with a history of tooth sensitivity.

Once the composite is precisely applied, your dentist securely  “bonds” or cements the material into place. We will also discuss ways to keep your bonded teeth looking and feeling great for years to come; for instance, if bruxism or tooth-grinding is to blame for your chips, a custom night guard or oral appliance may be in your future. This appliance protects your dental-work and natural teeth from further damage.
